Within Our Grasp Book

Synopsis

Culley Davis had been searching for something. He wanted to create an impression, a feeling, of the Savior—something that would convey what Jesus Christ did for the world and what He offers each and every one of us. Culley wanted the image to be personal and inviting.

The image needed to illustrate the Savior’s deep, abiding love for each person and tell a story all its own. But what this image of the Savior might be or look like was a mystery. That is, until one day when Culley was on one of his long Saturday bike rides west of Utah Lake. Thinking about his book, he suddenly received a spiritual epiphany.

Right there in front of him, Culley saw an image of the Savior’s hand, and then another hand reaching up to grasp the Savior’s. The image was clear and powerful. A flood of emotion and power overwhelmed Culley, and he had to stop riding to compose himself. This was the image Culley had been searching for. And with this image, one clear thought entered his mind: The Savior’s redeeming love is within our grasp.

Culley was immediately impressed with the encompassing reality of the Savior’s Atonement: Jesus Christ’s sacrifice is available to each of us. No matter our sins and mistakes, they cannot push us beyond the reach of the Savior’s power to change, redeem, cleanse, and sanctify us. What Christ offers us is free—if we will just take His hand and follow Him. In this book, Culley discusses how this is done as well as other topics. After this experience, Culley worked closely with artist Jay Ward to make the image he’d seen that day on his bike a reality. The result is the picture you see on the front cover of this book: a beautiful work of art that now inspires hundreds of thousands of people across the world. Culley hopes everyone who sees it can understand the message it communicates, as it has several meanings: The Savior is here for us, so we should never give up. His love is within our grasp.

Jesus Christ Is

Within Our Grasp

When we have sinned, whether by omission or commission, some of us fall prey to feelings of worthlessness or shame. However, if we work to return home to our Heavenly Father, we will be literally washed clean in the blood of the Lamb of God, making us pure and whole again. So why should we ever feel worthless?

In Within Our Grasp, Culley W. Davis draws from biblical, academic, popular, and personal sources to shine a light on the path to salvation. His discussions range from the scale of galaxies to the daily habits of individuals as he explores what it means to be fully immersed in our Heavenly Father’s loving embrace. He explores ideas such as why we fi nd ourselves on this Earth, how Satan operates, the extent and purpose of free will, the process through which we learn and grow, and the implications of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion. Additionally, throughout this work, Davis offers his own personal anecdotes and experiences as testaments to his faith.

In line with the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Davis believes that if we fully accept the Atonement of Jesus Christ, all the pain and hurt of life will be removed from our memory once our time on Earth is over. This is the gift that God has given us—that of eternal life. Of this, he promises and testifies.
